HISTORY OF THE DR. A. ALBERT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Dr. A. Albert Elementary School, named in honor of the late Dr. Alejandro Albert, the first Filipino Undersecretary of the Public Instruction, is located in Rizal Park, on a tract of land donated by Rizal Park Company, bounded by Dapita , Casanas, Piy Margall and Instruccion Streets. The original area was a muddy creek unfit for human habitation. The City health Department undertook the filling of the site from 1933 to 1934. The foundation of the school building was started in 1935. It was mighty task for the city workmen digging and erecting the foundation into four or five feet of mud and water. After the foundation was laid, the city undertook day and night shifts engaging no less than 120 workers in 1936, the building was ready for occupancy.
